Advanced Network Systems Helps Madison County Public Schools Deploy Video Surveillance Technology

An ever increasing number of school districts across the country now believe that video surveillance cameras are an essential part of crime prevention in schools. As a result, many districts have invested heavily in CCTV and IP-based surveillance technology. The benefits ascribed to school surveillance systems include: providing a significant deterrence factor to students, employees and outsiders, providing school administrators or security personnel with information not otherwise available (i.e., evidence can be preserved on disc or tape), freeing up staff manpower for more “learning” focused work and giving both students, faculty and parents overall “peace of mind.”

The Issue:

Madison County Public Schools needed a system to help them address various school security concerns such as vandalism, theft and fights as well as a tool to support overall teacher and student safety. The school district viewed the need to implement video surveillance technology as an important part of its commitment to creating an environment conducive to learning.

The Solution

Advanced Network Systems worked closely with Madison County Public Schools’ IT Director Mark Outten to design, test and install a digital CCTV video surveillance solution The system provides a "dedicated" communications link between CCTV cameras and monitors, digital video recording (DVR) and Internet-based remote access and monitoring capabilities. Some of the key issues that were addressed and planned for during the design phase of the project included the intended usage and threats needing to be addressed, budget, technology incorporation and existing school infrastructure. The solution was ultimately selected for its cost-effective ability to capture high-quality images, recording capabilities and performance reliability. Their systems are currently used at Madison County High School and Middle School.
